Safety

Over the centuries, Ontario’s ginseng has been taken to relieve stress, to help with digestive problems, energy problems and to treat the entire body/system. Whether taken as a supplement, tonic or tea, North American Ginseng has been safe and effective when used appropriately. Recent research studies show positive health impacts from using Ontario’s ginseng, with no side effects. This safe use is supported by the American Botanical Council Clinical Guide to Herbs as well as the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). In Canada, the Natural Health Products Directorate ensures that Canadians have ready access to natural health products, like Ontario ginseng, that are safe, effective and of high quality.

Natural Health Products Directorate
According to the Canadian Health Food Association, over 70% of Canadians use and consume natural health products to better manage their health. The Canadian consumer is increasingly concerned about the quality, safety and efficacy of these products. In response, Health Canada established the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) which has published regulations that came into force in January of 2004. The regulations place requirements on businesses that manufacture, package, label, import or distribute natural health products and are intended to regulate substances that are safe for over-the-counter use. The role of the NHPD is to ensure that Canadians have ready access to natural health products that are safe, effective and of high quality, while respecting freedom of choice and cultural diversity. For more information, visit the NHPD website at www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpfb-dgpsa/nhpd-dpsn/index.html.
